Help to support Sow the City’s tree planting programme, creating new green infrastructure across Greater Manchester in school grounds, at community project sites and in public parks.
Our programme allows you to plant urban trees where    people live and work, and where the benefits of trees    make the most difference. We can organise tree planting    volunteer days with your group or corporate volunteering    days, so that you can get hands-on in doing your bit for    the environment. The average person in the UK is responsible for 9.84 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions a year. Trees, woods and forests are important in mitigating the effects of climate change. Only 12% of the UK is wooded, compared with an average of 32% Europe. We think it’s important offsetting happens here in the UK as well as abroad. We can design new woodlands and specialise in selecting native trees and establishing forest gardens. Our projects are based at sites that are used by the community enabling today’s and future generations to benefit from the health and wellbeing benefits of the new woodland. We plant trees on land owned by housing associations, schools and voluntary sector partners. We make use of brownfield sites and wasteland, providing new,  much needed green infrastructure for the city. We plant native trees creating broadleaf woodland which benefits native wildlife habitats and supports biodiversity. Sow the City supports groups to ensure ongoing management of trees so that they grow to maturity.
