"[Sow the City's} proposal for a base in Moss Side is really exciting and the range of activities [they] envisage delivering from there clearly offer potential to improve the health and wellbeing of local residents."
Tom Woodcock, Strategic Lead for Community Asset Development at Greater Manchester Mental Health Foundation Trust
Boiling hot plans
At the Boiler House we aim to provide free and low-cost use of tools, equipment and space for people and be a catalyst for people to reach their potential. Our classes are open to everyone even if they’ve never picked up a paint brush or ever used a power tool. We employ workshop leaders who are experts in their field. They provide information, enthusiasm, and a safe environment for learning.
At the Boiler House we run a variety of community workshops, providing skills for employment, improving health and well being, developing a circular economy, and promoting gender and race equality. Our centre provides space for people of all ages and backgrounds to work together and participate in practical hands-on ways to shape their lives and communities. This could be as simple as making planters for growing veg at home, or as complex as developing collaborative art, or designing and fabricating new products. We believe everyone can participate given the right encouragement and support.
