Plant Orchestra

Plant Orchestra

Plants, often overlooked and underestimated. Scientists have found they are capable of memory, counting, sharing and much more. We have even made music with them.

"Our project allows people to hear the music that plants create through their natural processes, and we think it's going to be a game-changer in the way people experience music and nature."

Andy Kidd - Musican

Funky Flora

Using a system of sensors, we have found a way to translate the bio-electric signals produced by plants into sound. Our innovative Plant Orchestra has been shown at the Manchester Science Festival and the Castlefield Viaduct and allows people to experience music in a unique way. Visitors will be able to hear the music that plants create through their natural processes. Sensors connected to the leaves or roots of a plant measure the electrical signals made through natural processes like photosynthesis. These signals are transformed by music making equipment and converted into sound.

The installation provides new ways connect with and understand the natural world. We believe that plants have a language of their own, and we wanted to find a way to amplify that language and share it with people.
