Haveley Hey Wildlife Garden

Haveley Hey Wildlife Garden

Sow the City transformed an unused area of Haveley Hey Primary School into a wildlife garden with a pond and raised beds. Now newts, frogs and damselflies visit the garden – a real life classroom for the students to discover and learn in.

"I have enjoyed regular contact from the Sow the City team - invaluable advice, and enthusiasm for the project."

Karen Brown, Business Manager, Haveley Hey Primary School

A new town development

We worked in consultation with staff, parents and students at Haveley Hey Primary School to transform an unused area of school grounds into an allotment, orchard, pond, paths and wildlife garden.

The garden was designed as a space for children to learn about growing fruit and vegetables and to experience wildlife.

The site was landscaped with gentle slopes, woodchip paths and a large wildlife pond with native planting. All raised beds were built with sustainably managed timber and recycled materials. A storyteller’s chair and benches were provided by a local green wood worker.

The school has successfully grown and harvested a variety of fruit and vegetables and use the garden for many curriculum based activities.
