Growing the heart of the community
The Bradshaw Community Garden was developed from wasteland into a green community resource. The project has seen food growing as a catalyst for local community benefit and environmental improvement.
More than 15 different types of vegetables were harvested in less than 6 months, many that people had never seen or heard of before. The community garden encouraged families to work together and the space has become somewhere to meet, and relax and grow food. The group have made links with the local school offering use the site for outdoor education.
The site has become a social space for the community to come together to share, socialise and learn. The resourcefulness of the local residents was seen through their sourcing of essential materials for the site and using local recycling networks
