Where to grow
There's lots of places you could think about growing food:
Gardens have the advantage of soil and can be a sun trap depending on the conditions but long grass may harbour slugs and snails that may eat your delicious vegetables. And, weeds may be present that compete with your crops.
Yards have the advantage of a lack of pests and weeds but crops will probably need to be planted in compost and soil filled raised beds to provide a growing medium.
Windowsills have the advantage of warm conditions that many plants enjoy, and some pests are unlikely to a problem but windowsills have limited space so you will only be able to produce a small yield and you'll need to remember to water your plants.
Greenhouses -are useful for extending the growing season but they are expensive and take up lots of space. Just as for windowsills you need to water your plants regularly and make sure they don't get too hot.
Rooftops if they are accessible and flat are great places to grow food because they are often sunny and have limited pest problems. Raised beds or other containers will be needed though to provide a growing medium.
Allotments are excellent places to grow food but they do need a big time commitment. Contact your local council to see if they have any available in your area.
